Jamie Boyd, OD

The reason I became an optometrist is: I knew since high school that I wanted to go in to the medical field. However, emotionally I couldn’t bare taking on a profession that dealt with life and death on a regular basis. I joined the premed club at NCSU and quickly realized optometry was it! Not only can I give someone great sight through glasses or contacts, but I can help them extend their sight and life through treatments and better lifestyle practices. It is such a positive profession, and I truly enjoy seeing my patients and catching up on their life each time I see them.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and kiddos. I love traveling, exploring the great outdoors, working out, and reading. My favorite part of helping my patients is improving the quality of their life through better vision and helping them manage/ treat their ocular and systemic health.

Natalya Sheppard, OD

Optometry has been my calling and my passion since I asked myself a profound question, “How do other people see the world?” at the age of 10. Growing up in a beautiful village in the south of Belarus I was one of only two kids in my small school who needed to wear glasses full time. Myopia was uncommon there, and my personal experience has affected my view on people’s visual perception as a very personal choice. People have different daily needs, demands and tolerances and I want to hear their concerns about their vision because I want to help them.

I carried this empathy and curiosity into my future, and an Optometry career became a natural choice for me. My main area of interest and expertise is Myopia Control, which can be done successfully these days using the latest developments in soft lens technology, as well as Ortho-K and prescription drops; and treatment of Ocular Rosacea using the multi-step approach of RF, IPL and prescription medication.

I moved to North Carolina from Finland and enjoy exploring the area for new restaurants, hiking trails, knitting stores and meeting friendly local people anywhere I go. This is a beautiful state where my husband and I plan to stay, join the local church, raise our son and contribute to Wake Forest patients’ care as part of the local optometric community.
